Tolerance is spelled T- R- A- P
How many things were a clear ->NO, a few years back for you, but now it is really not a big deal? Just like the “boiling frog syndrome” we may find ourselves boiled to death by tolerating, putting up with , or turning a blind eye to things we know are not pleasing to God.
When it comes to sin~ tolerance is a big trap because it numbs good judgment. It is the first step on a slippery slope that will take you head on to that which you are tolerating. You become it. You become what you behold.
How do we know if tolerance to sin has compromised our spiritual life? There is only one way to know. Present yourself before the Lord with a humble heart and ask Him to reveal to you through His Holy Spirit anything that you may need to address. If you pray in faith your eyes will be opened and you will know what adjustments to make, but if you are not open for correction or willing to change, you are taking God out of the equation. This never ends well.
If you truly repent and want to turn your ways in any area of your life that needs to change, God will show you the way and also help you. He does not desire that you be in bondage to sin, but that you would be free to enjoy the life He has made available for you.
The more of God’s light in your life, the easier it will be to spot anything that wants to corrupt God’s beautiful work in your life. The more light you have, the easier it will be for you to stop, resist, and walk away from the temptation of putting down your guard even just a little…
Don’t override warnings~ Don’t ignore these excuses or “billboards” that broadcast loud and clear that you are playing with sin. Phrases to watch out for…
*It is no big deal
*I am mature
*I am an adult
*I know the truth
*That doesn’t really pull on me
*Just one time
*That does not hurt me I am over it
*It was a problem in my past not now…
*Don’t want to be left out.
*God knows I’ll stop- I’m trying
*I can handle it.
*I’m in control and I can stop anytime I want to.
Do not tolerate sin.
Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. Proverbs 4:14-15
The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble. Proverbs 4:18-19
